Telling Your Story Through Data: A Deep Dive Into Process

Join the Department of Education’s Technical Assistance Team for a follow-up to the most recent Showcase: “Data! What Is it Good For? Absolutely EVERYTHING!” This three-part web series will dive deep into each of the three components outlined by the Showcase — planning with the end in mind, interpreting data to make decisions and crafting a story about your data. For each component, you’ll hear about its unique challenges, relevant strategies and techniques, and success stories from practitioners in the field.

Please Note: You must register for each webinar separately. These webinars are hosted via Zoom. When you register, you will be taken to another web site.

Virtual Session 1: My Data Path

Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET

Planning with the end in mind transforms your data collection from haphazard and compliance-based to purposeful and meaningful. In the first session of a three-part series, you’ll see how to illustrate your plan for program outcomes using a logic model that includes long- and short-term SMART goals, activities and resources. Using the logic model and other Y4Y resources, we’ll show you how to set your 21st CCLC programs up for success by building a clear path toward desired outcomes.

By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Utilize data to set SMART goals for planning intentional activities.
  • Utilize tools for collecting needs assessment and outcome data.
  • Develop a logic model.
  • Implement with fidelity.

Virtual Session 2: Drawing Conclusions From Data

Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET

You’ve created a logic model. Now what? In the second session of this three-part series, learn how to interpret your outcome data for the purpose of making timely, informed decisions. Consistent monitoring and responsive adjustments throughout the data collection process will ensure an authentic positive story, one that describes successes and challenges, with an eye toward continuous program improvement.

By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Reflect on your goals and why you did or did not meet them.
  • Plan for improvement if necessary.
  • Complete a reflection chart.

Virtual Session 3: Crafting a Compelling Narrative

Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET

Compelling and effective storytelling techniques will be paired with modern-day data analysis to help you  translate your program’s progress into a captivating narrative. Join Y4Y for the third and final virtual session in the Telling Your Story Through Data: A Deep Drive Into Process series.

By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the successes and challenges you faced in reaching program goals.
  • Use Y4Y tools to develop a narrative.
  • Present your story in a compelling narrative.
