Engaging participants in investigation of the world around them offers opportunities for authentic learning experiences. However, it is critical that efforts looking to do so are intentionally designed to meet appropriate learning outcomes. In this webinar we will discuss the growing field of citizen science, also known by names such as community science, public participation in scientific research, volunteer monitoring, etc. We will discuss the rich history of this practice, how new technologies are advancing the ways people can join in, considerations for designing efforts to have positive learning impacts, as well as overview some successful projects you may want to consider participating in.
