Challenge 3:
Astro Socks

Student teams will use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills along with the engineering design process (EDP) to investigate the following question: How can our team develop footwear for the International Space Station (ISS) astronauts that will both protect and provide comfort for their feet while they live and work in space? Teams will investigate the microgravity environment that exists on the ISS. You will also tour the ISS and explore the daily events and routines of the astronauts. Finally, you and your team will construct a test rig, a sensor sock, and a test sled that will be used throughout the engineering design process to design your Astro Sock prototype.

Develop protective footwear for the ISS astronauts to wear as they live and work in microgravity.
