STEM Initiatives

The U.S. Department of Education is collaborating with other federal agencies to provide exciting learning opportunities for students in 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) programs. Check out the NASA, National Park Service (NPS), and Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) portals, where you’ll find hands-on project ideas and resources your program can use to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to life.

NASA

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, NASA has developed six Engineering Design Challenges and a Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Investigation. Activity guides and professional learning resources are included, so you can try these projects in your own program!

National Park Service (Page Coming Soon)

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the National Park Service has developed a Hands on the Land Citizen Science Project: Place-Based STEM Learning program. By partnering with national parks, 21st CCLC sites and students were able to participate in engaging citizen science projects.  Activity guides and professional learning resources are included, so you can try these projects in your own program!

Institute of Museum and Library Services

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the Institute of Museum and Library Services has developed four STEM-rich making and tinkering activities. Activity guides and professional learning resources are included, so you can try these projects in your own program!
