Project Kickoff

Get projects off to a solid start with sound preparation

A strong Project Kickoff can get students excited and focused on a project right from the start. It includes three steps:

  1. Planning the project. Help connect student interests to larger issues in their school or community. Thinking about how student experiences connect to the larger world will help to ensure the project topic is both meaningful to youth and makes a real-world impact.
When planning a project, also think about how the topic aligns with your state’s academic standards. Consider the Project Planner tool to help you get started.
  2. Crafting a driving question. Crafting an intriguing, open-ended, driving question is the most important aspect of the Project Kickoff. A great driving question motivates and inspires students. Their search for answers will direct everything that happens during the course of the project.
  3. Launching the project. The Project Kickoff includes a launch event that tells everyone the mission is on!
