Identify Partners — Coaching Moment

Communities are a network of individuals, organizations, places, and groups. Use the interactive map below to help you identify resources in your community and where potential partnerships could flourish.

Instructions: Click each pin on the map for more information.

  • Arts-related
  • Service-oriented
  • Other

Check out signs on telephone poles and in areas people frequent in the community - most groups that are actually active have events and frequently publicise them.

Community Leaders

  • Religious or business leaders
  • Long-term residents

Ask around and find out who gets things done in the community. Make a point to read local newspapers to see which names pop up again and again.

Sources of Information

  • Newsletters and websites
  • Listservs
  • Chamber of Commerce

Subscribe to blogs and twitter feeds of local media personalities and leaders to get a real-time perspective of what's happening in the community.

Public Spaces

  • Parks
  • Popular meeting places
  • Attractions

Talk to stakeholders (youth, families, etc.) to find out where they like to go on weekends and in their spare time. Find a mix of places youth know as well as places they may never have visited because of distance or cost.

  • Small businesses
  • Large corporations
  • Job training programs

Reach out to businesses since many encourage volunteering in the community and also have a vested interest in making sure they have a well-educated and dynamic future workforce.

Other Organizations

  • Government-related
  • Non-profit organizations

Contact organizations such as state and federal health and human services departments to get a better sense of low-cost or free community resources and supports.
