Pull It Together

Expand and improve literacy in 21st CCLC programs by strengthening staff skills, moving from the simple to the more complex, from vocabulary reinforcement to widening experiences, to going deeper with expert knowledge and projects.

Train staff in appropriate techniques, and build skills over time. Find partners and support as needed, and utilize other community resources that can help widen experience. Help staff build skills to 

  • Establish a common purpose and achievable goals in literacy development
  • Connect with school-day learning and community resources
  • Understand the set of skills that comprise literacy in the 21st century and how to align them to rigorous college and career readiness standards
  • Effectively utilize high-quality, age-appropriate and engaging literacy skill-building strategies and activities
  • Connect with experts and other resources to extend and deepen learning
