School and Community — Linking Activities

FIchpt 3p7

Your 21st CCLC program has the potential to be a community hub that links families to schools and neighborhood resources. Here are examples of activities:

  • The program and the school(s) invite families to participate in joint activities.
  • The program connects families to the community by bringing service providers on site, holding a community fair or distributing information about available services.
  • Program staff spend time in children’s school-day classrooms or meet with the school-day teachers, then share information with families.

Explore Aligning with the School Day for more helpful tips.

Connect With a Colleague

With a colleague, talk about any of these activities you use in your program. How did your program determine the need to provide these activities? How have these activities affected students?
