Overview

A grandmother and her grandson. A mom, a step-dad and their two children. An older and a younger sibling. Two dads and an adopted daughter. All of these are families.

Families come from many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, speak different languages at home, and have a variety of expectations and experiences with school. Yet, all of them want and need the same things from your program — a safe environment where their students can develop and grow, inclusivity and respect in all aspects of the program, and options that meet their needs.

During this introduction, you will

  • Understand the importance of family engagement in your program
  • Strengthen how you interact with families from diverse backgrounds
  • Learn to select activities that engage many different kinds of families
  • Explore how to target families that are hard to reach
