Engage Families

Where and how can families fit into your program?

Family engagement should be more than a once-a-year open house or having families stop in and chat every time they pick up their child. Program expectations for family engagement should focus more on quality interactions rather than quantity and on finding ways to involve families that fit their schedules, strengths and comfort levels. Ideas to consider:

  • Go off site! If families can't make it to you, go visit them at places of worship, popular meeting places and their homes.
  • Have families help you decide on, organize and carry out parenting workshops, special events and efforts to improve the program.
  • Create a space at your site for families to network, talk to staff members and connect with community resources.
